In 2009, peace returned to the world thanks to the efforts of the United Fire-Defense Agency's Rescue Force. However, a crisis once again descends upon the world as the Zakaen, an ancient race sealed within the Arctic glaciers, are released and begin their activities. The Zakaen, capable of freely manipulating flames, unleash "Super Fires"—a threat far greater than a super-disaster—plunging the globe into chaos. Following in the footsteps of the Rescue Force, which had expanded its operations globally, a new special forces unit called "Rescue Fire" is established.
