The plot centers on the young mistress of the castle, Cornelia van Vestrum, who feels the blood of her ancestress, a kleptomaniac Roma, running through her veins. Like her ancestor, Cornelia must also steal. She is observed by the swindler Johannes van Gudry, who tries to blackmail her...
